ActiveVision

ActiveVision brings an innovative vision to visual media, the vision of those that are considered as the pas- sive subjects in the documentary act. Our main goal is to empower people in the use of photography and video, as new language for telling their story in order to bring about a positive change in their lives and in the society that they live in. Each project is targeted to strengthen disadvantaged groups whose view point is usually ignored by the media. The work is carried out in selected communities and shared with community members, in an at- tempt to create both self-consciousness and awareness in other parts of society.

ActiveVision considers each project as an important milestone in the life of the community. Therefore the community plays an active role in the definition, control and implementation of the project. For this reason each project is meant to be developed with the collaboration of a grass roots organization. A successful project is measured by the impact it makes on both the individuals and the community, and as we are conscious of both the potential and limitations of visual media in conflict situations, each project will take place in an already existing community structure.

Since technical knowledge alone is not sufficient to create true social change, the project will also concen- trate on empowerment of the individuals and communities involved. Therefore the methods for each proj- ect are different, as they are dedicated and designed for and by the community itself.
